HICKORY, NC & BANGOR - Diane Elizabeth Caron McDonald, 63, of Hickory, NC, widow of Richard J. McDonald, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Diane was born Nov. 29, 1951 in Bangor to Corinne and the late Camille Caron. She graduated from John Bapst High School and University of Maine with a B.S. in Home Economics. She completed her Master's Degree at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in Food and Nutrition. She worked at Frye Regional Medical Center as a registered dietitian for a number of years before leaving to home school her children. Diane was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where she served as a lector and March for Life bus coordinator. She was a member of St. Aloysius' Confraternity of Christian Mothers and she volunteered for the YMCA, coordinating countless concession stands for the Hickory Seahorse Swim Team. She was also an avid volunteer for the Pregnancy Care Center in Hickory.
Survivors include her mother, Corinne C. Caron of Bangor; daughters and sons-in-law, Megan and Adam Ziegler of Rock Island, Ill., Molly and Anderson Stacy of Greensboro, Miriam and Riley Brogan of Charlotte; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Katharine of Granite Falls, Matthew and Kristi McDonald of Erlangen, Germany; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Sabina Caron of Lexington, Mass., Michael and Jeanne Caron of Winterport; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Kim Weiland of Bow, N.H., PeggyAnn and Robert Whitson of Oneida, Tenn; grandchildren, Joseph, Hannah, Eli, Miriam, Isaac, John, Nicholas Ziegler of Rock Island, Ill., Felix, Liam, Evelyn, Ruari, Lillian McDonald of Granite Falls, Rosalyn and Esther of Erlangen, Germany; father-in-Law, Robert V. McDonald of Bangor; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia McDonald of Bangor, Ann and Brian Smith of Presque Isle; aunt and uncle, Jeannette and Charles Money of Hickory, NC; as well as many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends may visit 6 - 8 PM Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, York St., Bangor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Church's Building fund, Pregnancy Care Center of Hickory, Rachel's Vineyard, and Catawba Regional Hospice of Newton, NC.
