Denys's Story

BANGOR - This is not a good-bye, my love, this is a thank you. Thank you for coming into my life and giving me joy. Thank you for loving me and receiving my love in return. Thank you for the memories, I will cherish them forever.

- Love, Carolyn

Thank you, my love...

On Dec. 30, 2015, my high school sweetheart, my best friend, my most loyal supporter, my hero, my husband Denys passed away.

Denys Millar loved family, people, travelling, politics, sports, shopping, reading, cooking, eating and riding his John Deere.

Denys loved life. He was a wonderful proud father to Jennifer Millar-Coyle, Duncan Millar and Rebecca Millar D'Alessio. He adored his grandchildren Colin, Nathan, Gavin, Cameron, Noah, Oliver and Fiona, his sister Pat, his brother-in-law Vic, his nephews and nieces and their spouses, and his sons-in-law James and Thomas.

Because of the slow progression of Denys' illness, we had a long time to prepare for his death, hold hands, express our deep love for each other and say our good-byes. For that I will always be grateful.

He left this world surrounded by family in the way he wanted -- sharing memories, laughter and tears.

Denys was larger than life. One old friend told me, "I never thought Denys would die." Another said, "You know, I only had 10 friends in this world, and Denys was four of them."

Instead of a funeral, he wanted a party on his deck, so we're celebrating Denys' life on May 21 at 4 p.m. in his home at 101 West Broadway in Bangor, Maine.

Please join my family to share a memory and raise a toast.
