Dennis's Story

Corinna - Dennis Lawrence Metivier, 89, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at home in Corinna. He was born in Corinna November 25, 1927, to George and Nellie Maude (Pomeroy) Metivier Adams. He was the loving, caring husband of Joanne (King) Metivier for the last 58 years.
Dennis attended Newport High School, but left at the age of 17 to join the Navy. He served stateside as an aviation storekeeper during World War II and the Korean War. During his time in the service he married Charlotte Howes, also of Corinna, on September 3, 1950. She later died August 28, 1956, of a long term illness. After the service he returned to Corinna and worked at the Snowflake Canning Company until it was destroyed by fire. He was employed for a time as a truck mechanic for Glenn Robinson, and then became an employee of E. L. Crosby & Sons until he and Joanne purchased the Western Auto Store in Corinna, which they operated until its closing twenty years later (1970 - 1990). Dennis finished out his working years as the property manager at Sunshine Village in Corinna where he enjoyed taking care of the many residents there and receiving their gifts of cookies and donuts each morning. He was a member and past trustee of the Corinna United Methodist Church.
After retiring Dennis enjoyed sitting at his computer playing "Solitare", watching and feeding the birds and playing with his cat Henry (named after his grandfather), but his happiest times were when he was with friends and his loving family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his half-sister Geraldine (Adams) Richardson. Dennis and Joanne have one daughter, Barbara (Metivier) Eaton and husband Kevin, their children Elizabeth "Elli" Stedman and husband Joel, Dennis "Denny" Eaton and his partner Alexa Mitchell; step-son James Emerson and wife Susan, and their children Timothy "TJ" Emerson, Heather (Emerson) Kerstetter and husband Dale; step-daughter Carleen Davis and husband Daniel and their children, Jim Davis and wife Cheryl, Suanne (Davis) Cookson and husband Era, Ryan Davis and partner Danielle Smith, Dusty Davis and fiancé Kahla Lander; 15 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, George and Nellie Maude (Pomeroy) Metivier Adams; his first wife Charlotte Howes Metivier, stepfather Burns Adams, his sister, Zelda (Metivier) Peirce, brother Ralph Metivier, half-sister Dale (Adams) Flint, and half-brother, Gilbert Adams.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 14th, 2017, at the Corinna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry McKinley officiating.
