Dawn's Story

Millinocket - Dawn Louise (Nelson) Burrell passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017, with family and friends by her side. She was born April 1, 1942, in Brownville, the daughter of Everett and Irene (Johnston) Nelson.
Dawn attended schools in Brownville, and in 1956 moved with her family to Millinocket, where she graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1961. After graduation, Dawn worked at the Millinocket Community Hospital as a nurse's aide. She worked at the hospital for many years, where she was a faithful and dedicated worker, especially enjoying her time working with Dr. Mason and also on the maternity ward. On September 10, 1962, she married Gilbert "Gibby" Burrell. Dawn had many wonderful neighborhood friends, with whom she enjoyed many bus trips and talks over coffee. She loved spending time with her girls in Florida, and later travelling and camping with her husband and neighbors.
In addition to Gibby, Dawn is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Burrell of Millinocket and Carolyn Kyle and her husband Mike of Florida; three grandchildren, Matthew, Aaron, and Brian Kyle; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, George Nelson and his wife Pauline, and Roland Davis and his wife Nancy, and their son Jeremy. Dawn was predeceased by her mother, Irene Levensalor and her step father Frederick Levensalor.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Katahdin Health Care for the special and loving care given to Dawn and the kindnesses and courtesies extended to the family.
Graveside services will be held in the springtime at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Dawn may be sent to Katahdin Health Care Activities Fund, 22 Walnut Street, Millinocket, ME 04462.
