TRENTON - David George Kelley passed away on July 13, 2015 at Courtland Rehabilitation Center. He was comforted by visits from his children, siblings and wife over the weekend. He was born on August 15, 1931 to Frances (Closson) and Walter Kelley.
He was one of the many volunteers that fought the great fire of Bar Harbor in 1947. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1949 and then entered into the Marine Corps. He served his country for 20 years with tours in Korea, Vietnam and aboard the USS Boston and retired as a 1st Sergeant. He was truly a Marine to the core, he was often referred to as "Sarge" by many that knew him. David and his family moved to Turner, Maine where he started his own vending machine business. In 1987 David and Joyce moved to Ellsworth where he worked at the Bar Harbor Golf Course in maintenance. He could always be seen with a cigar in his mouth!
On August 22, 1952 he married Joyce Sprague, who survives. He leaves behind a son Brian Kelley and wife Lynn of Trenton, son Timothy Kelley and wife Carol of Westbrook, daughter Marsha Peterson and husband Andrew of Casco. Preceding him in death were his son Michael and daughter Tanya. Per David's wishes there will be no services, a family gathering will be held at a later date.
David will be missed and forever loved. Rest easy Marine. Semper Fi!
