- David Owen Field, 69, of Blaine, Maine, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born November 21, 1947, in Mars Hill, the son of Herald Field and Hope (Grass) Field.
David graduated from Central Aroostook High School in Mars Hill, Maine in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and served in Cu Chi, Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971. After arriving back in Mars Hill, he met and married the love of his life, Vonda (Folsom) Field. Together they enjoyed 46 beautiful years of marriage and raised three children, Ami Pierce and her husband Scott, of Mars Hill, Laci Wilson and her husband Ben, of Middleboro, MA, and Wayne Field of Blaine. David was a long-haul truck driver for 40 years. He often said he had backed up more miles than most people have driven ahead.
David was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life and loved his family immeasurably. He loved a day spent on the lake in a boat, family dinners, watching old Westerns, and keeping track of his old trucking buddies.
He was the proud "Pappy" to four granddaughters, Frankie Anne, Julia Blythe, Charlie Claire and Aubrie Nicole Pierce of Mars Hill. They were the apple of his eye.
David is survived by his mother, wife, children, and granddaughters. He is also survived by his siblings, Donna Hasskamp and her husband Fred of Hamilton, Montana, Starr Craig and her husband Robert of Mars Hill, Tina Field of Presque Isle and Alan Field and his wife Kim of Blaine. Also, many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
David kept a small circle of people who meant a lot to him. That circle included special friends George "Sandy" and Vicki Smith of Westfield and Wade McCrum of Mars Hill. David was predeceased by his father Herald Field in 2002.
To honor his wishes a graveside service and interment with military honors will be held at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou, ME, on Friday, October 13th at 12:00 p.m. A time of fellowship to celebrate David's life will be held for family and friends at East Ridge Union Church in Mars Hill at 2:00 p.m.
