Bar Harbor - Obituary for David Dupray

David Michael Dupray, age 67, passed from this world to the next on May 15, 2017 after a six month struggle with cancer. Dave was born and raised in the Hampden/Bangor area and graduated from John Bapst High School. He also attended and graduated from Arizona State University. David always loved the Bar Harbor area and he worked as a bartender at Jack Russell's, Galyn's and Geddy's. Dave eventually owned and operated the Whale Watch Café (also known as Grumpy's) for about ten years. He loved the work and the people who worked for him.
During the off-season, Dave enjoyed his travels to Thailand. David had many friends and touched the lives of many visitors and international workers in the Bar Harbor area. His house was always busy with friends and co-workers. He was well-known for his sense of humor and his kindness to others. Often up for a round of golf, or hanging out with friends, Dave lived his life in the way he wanted - always his own man.
David is survived by his sister, Donna Dupray, and her husband, Joel Page. His niece, Elizabeth Page, and nephew, Aaron Page, were very important to him in his life. They loved him deeply. David was predeceased by his mother, Rose Kenney, and his father, Clayton Dupray. David's son, Jackson, died in infancy. This tragic event was very important to David, and his thoughts were always with the lost possibilities of having a son.
Many thanks to the personal friends who helped him through these difficult times. Mount Desert Island Hospital provided excellent emergency care and he was able to stay at his home with the support of Loving Touch In-Home Care and Beacon Hospice. His final days were comfortable and he was well cared for.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life and spread his ashes is planned for June 24th in Bar Harbor. This event will take place on the Miss Samantha, one of the Whale Watch boats, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Please arrive at the dock, One West Street, Bar Harbor 30 minutes before sailing, rain or shine. We will have a beautiful cruise around the harbor and have an opportunity to say good-bye to a fine man.
