Danual's Story

CUTLER - Danual Holmes, husband of Lois Randall Holmes, passed from his earthly journey here to his eternal home in heaven on Friday, March 4, 2016 at a Machias Hospital after a courageous two year struggle with lung cancer. He was born in Machiasport May 6, 1947, the son of William Sr. and Laura Foss Holmes.

Dan was a 1966 graduate of Washington Academy in East Machias, where he played basketball for four years. He was a devoted fan of all Washington County High School basketball teams but had a special love for the Raiders of Washington Academy. He also attended Northern Maine Vocational Tech School of Presque Isle and graduated in the class of 1968.

Dan spent many years working with his father aboard the sardine carrier Jacob Pike out of Rockland, Maine. He loved being on the ocean and especially enjoyed the past few months helping aboard the scallop draggers "Fraid Knot" and "Revenge" with owner Patrick Feeney, who was like a son to him, and with his nephew Justin Erickson and fishing buddies, John Nutter and Derek Feeney.

Dan is survived by his wife, Lois; brother, Willliam Holmes, Jr. and wife Judy of Machiasport; sisters, Laurie Stone of California and Mary Donaghy of Machiasport; uncles, Lester Foss of Holden and Cyrus Holmes and wife Carlene of Warren, Maine; aunts, Susan Hawkins of Cutler and Lorena Fontaine of Ohio; sister's-in-law, Carolyn Kelley of Wiscasset, Charlotte Wright and Bonnie Dorr both of Delray, Florida; several nieces and nephews and little buddy "Tommy," his Scottish Terrier that he loved so very much. Dan was predeceased by sister-in-law Sarah Dill of Bangor.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Cutler. Arrangements by McClure Funeral Services of Machias and Lubec.
