HANCOCK - Danny Edward Warford, 65, passed away at a local hospital, February 22, 2015 after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born in Boston, MA, November 14, 1949, the son of William Francis and Ruth Agnes (Moon) Warford.
Dan attended Hancock Grammar School as a child and went on to attend Sumner Memorial High School. He was always very proud of the fact that he ran and completed the Boston Marathon in just over 4 hours a few months before he graduated in 1969. After high school, Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed at Paris Island, SC where he was later honorably discharged in 1971 for medical reasons. After leaving the military, he moved to Connecticut with his brother, Bill Warford. He served as a captain for the National Detective Service in Hartford and was always proud to tell the story of how he once met Olivia Newton John backstage before a show. During Dan's time in CT., he formed his own band name the Ramblers. He moved back to Maine in the late 70"s and soon thereafter began working with his brother Steve at Warford Electric. He remained employed by his brother until his disability in 1993. Dan always had a love for music which led him early on to become a self taught guitarist and vocalist. He enjoyed showing his love for music with others and recently had been teaching guitar lessons at the Sumner Adult Ed. His generosity led him to donate 3 guitars from his collection to the Sumner High School music program so that anyone that wanted to play the guitar could.
Dan met his loving and devoted wife, Lynn Ann (Shorey) Warford in April 1991 while playing music at the birthday celebration of Lynn's sister, Ellen. They were inseparable from that day on and were married on March 21, 1992 in Hancock where they would reside for 23 years together. They enjoyed care taking several cottages on Hancock Point for many years and always loved their nightly rides around the point to enjoy the scenery and sunsets.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Lynn, as well as two stepchildren, Jason Worster and his fiancé Heidi Jarvis, and Jennifer Worster and her partner Alyssa Giardino. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Max, Zachary and Tyler; siblings, Kay Perry and husband Richard of Sullivan, brother, Bob Warford and wife Frances of Hancock, Marsha and husband Dewey of Hancock, Bill of North Carolina, Steve Warford and wife Lynda of Florida; two half brothers, Donald Davis of South Carolina and Thomas Davis of Florida. Dan had many nieces and nephews with two in particular that he always held close to his heart, Vicki Henderson and Jennifer Bronson. He also enjoyed all the times with his special sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Hollis Smith. He was predeceased by his parents; aunt and uncle, Cecile and Leonard Pond, as well as his Uncle George Moon.
The family would like to express our sincerest thank you to the nursing staff at MCMH for making his final days as comfortable as possible.
Visiting hours will be 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, February 27, 2015 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth. A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 28th, at Eastside Baptist Church, Eastside Road, Hancock with Pastor Bud Morse officiating. There will be a gathering after the service at the Hancock Town Hall. Dan always loved the color blue and the family would ask that you wear something blue to honor him.
