EAST MILLINOCKET - Wednesday, July, 16, 2014, Dan went home to be with the lord surrounded by his family. He was born June 4, 1926 in East Millinocket.
Dan was proud of his service with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a Corporal with the 6th Marine Division at Okinawa. He received many medals; World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, USMC Rifle/Sharpshooters Badges and Insignias/Stars. He worked for 44 years as an electrician for Great Northern Paper Co, retiring in 1985.
Dan was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix most anything. He remained active enjoying family, fiddle heading, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and many other activities.
He was predeceased by his parents, Neal and Sophie Nicholson; sister, Irene Nicholson Riddell, brother-in-law, Tom Riddell; brother-in-law, Donald Lyons and grandson, Joe VanDine. He is survived by his wife 68 years of marriage, Joyce Cole Nicholson of East Millinocket; sister-in law, Louise Rush of Millinocket; brother, Neil "Sonny" Nicholson and his wife, Loretta "Jean" of East Millinocket; sister, Nancy Nicholson Lyons of East Millinocket; four children, Lester "Nick" Nicholson and his wife, Patti of Lawley, AL; Daniel "Dan" Nicholson and his wife, Nancy of Norwood, NC; Deborah "Debbie" and her husband, Jim Elms of East Millinocket, ME; George D Nicholson and Jesse Boone of Suffolk, VA; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Mattawamkeag Baptist Church where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steve McNally officiating with graveside service to follow at the East Millinocket cemetery.
