Dana's Story

BEVERLY - Dana Ralph Staples of Beverly died peacefully on June 19, 2016, after a year long battle with Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma. Born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947, in Belfast, Maine, he was the son of the late Joseph and Doris (Fellows) Staples of Belfast, Maine. He was the adored husband of Denise (Chisholm) Staples with whom he shared 20 wonderful years of marriage.

Dana grew up in Belfast, Maine, a graduate of the Crosby High Class of 1965. He left Belfast to proudly serve in the United States Army. He attended Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California and served as a Chinese Linguist in the ASA during the Vietnam era. After completion of his military career he embarked on many fascinating careers, always open to learning something new and challenging. In 1992 he began his long career at Brown Brothers Harriman, retiring as a Vice President in Investment Systems Development & Support in 2009.

He served the city of Beverly on the Beverly Computer Commission, from 1988 until 1992 and since 2008 he has served on the Board Of Registrars. He was always up for a good political discussion regardless if you were on the same side. Dana was a Member of the American Legion and the DAV. He enjoyed life to the fullest, living and traveling to many different places all over the United States, ending up in Beverly ,MA, where he spent his happiest years. The thing that made him happiest was the day he first became a grandfather. He often told others that he would never want to live anywhere else now because he was "Bampy" to Hailey, Gabby, Tyler and Jacob Chisholm and could never be far away from them. He always a constant sight at his grandchildrens' events and games and enjoying every minute. He was an extremely proud grandfather.

He is survived by his stepsons, David Chisholm and his wife Leah, and grandchildren Hailey and Gabrielle (Gabby) and Michael Chisholm and his wife Katie and grandchildren Tyler and Jacob all of Danvers, MA and Blessing Mazarura and his Fiancee Johanna Zaharaa of New York. He is also survived by two brothers Richard Staples and his wife Deborah of Waterville, ME and their three children, Elizabeth (Beth) and her husband Steve Boyamian, of Winchester, MA, Katherine (Kate) and her husband Patrick Burland, of Havertown, PA and Jonathan Staples and Vicky Russell of Seabrook, NH and Robert Staples and his wife Susan of Bangor, ME, and their daughters Becky and her husband Raymond of Auburndale, FL and Meredith Staples of Bangor, ME and several great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dearest friends Tom Strange and his husband Tony Ptak of Henderson, LV.
