Dana Osborne Craig

- Rev. Dana Osborne Craig passed away peacefully on January 15, 2017. Dana's body had been failing, but not his love for God, family and friends.
Dana was born in Brookton, Maine on March 2, 1934, to Donald Craig and Margurite (Cameron). He is survived by his brother Norman Craig and his wife Levola, and two special nephews, Danny Craig and David Craig, along with several nieces and nephews. He left behind his four children: Cindy Lavertu and her husband, Dana, Mark and his wife, Becky, Cathy Bemis and her husband, Richard, Lisa Winters and her husband, Pastor Kirk as well as eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Dana was not only a trombone player, but an all- star athlete that set and broke records in track and cross country at Dexter High School. He also played baseball and was known for being an ambidextrous player. He received an athletic scholarship to MCI prep school in Pittsfield, Maine. In addition, he attended Bible School in Worcester, Massachusetts and Bible School in Marysville, New Brunswick where he met the love of his life, Doris (Dottie) Leighton. They were married July 6, 1957. He was called to ministry at the age of five. He- pastored churches in Rhode Island, Indiana and several Maine communities. Pastoring was a highlight of his life. Dana loved to travel and his ministry took him to five continents. The highlight of his travels was to his homeland of Scotland, where he knelt and kissed the ground. Another trip he loved was to Africa where he interacted with the feared warrior tribe of Masai. Wherever Dana went, he preached the gospel without trepidation.
Dana leaves behind a great legacy of children and grandchildren who are ministers and are in the ministry in various capacities. Only eternity will tell of the countless lives that he impacted.
A celebration of Dana's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017, at The Rock Church, 1195 Ohio Street, Bangor. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the celebration.
