Damon's Story

ALTON - Damon H. Young, 83, died peacefully March 4, 2015, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was born May 13, 1931, in Lowell, ME, one of 15 children to Ralph Sr. and Ena (Priest) Young.

Damon was a hardworking man and worked many years as a woodsman and a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing Aggravation with his longtime friends, Reggie and Carolyn Barnes, taking rides with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chester and Jeannie Michaud, and most of all sharing a lobster roll with the love of his life, Sharon, on their frequent trips to the Eagles Nest in Brewer. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter. You could often find him in his garden tending to his green beans and tomatoes. Damon will fondly be remembered as the Mr. Fix-it of the neighborhood. At home, he would spend countless hours in his garage, breathing life back into an old discarded lawnmower or snow blower, which would later be found with a "For Sale" sign at the end of his driveway.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon (Ellingwood) Young of Alton; four children, Ricky Young and his wife, Darlene, of Alton, Randy Young and his wife, Linda, of Alton, Robin Nicholas and her husband, David, of Vassalboro and Ronda Jackson and her husband, Al, of Bradley; nine grandchildren, Ryan Young, Cory Young, Danielle Pelletier, Jenna Young, Jubel Goody, Derek Brown, Meaghan Brown, Keith Larby and Mitchell Larby; two great-granddaughters, Kathryn Robinson and Claire Goody; a brother, Veral Young of Old Town; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 13 siblings.

A celebration of life gathering will be held 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015, at the Alton Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Spring burial will be held at the Alton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alton Methodist Church Memorial Fund, care of Paulette Borja, 3945 Bennoch Road, Alton, ME 04468.
