OLD TOWN - Clifton V. Bemis Jr., 79, died April 11, 2015 at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 31, 1935 in Sanford, ME a son of Clifton V. Sr and Clothilde E. (Demers) Bemis.
Mr. Bemis was raised and educated in Sanford. He was proud of his military career serving in both the Air Force and Navy, retiring as a Chief Cryptologic Technician, USN, in 1983. Following retirement in enrolled at the University of Maine, earning a Bachelor of Science. He was the weatherman of Channel 7 News, and on several radio stations, and he taught for many years at the New England School of Communication. He enjoyed following the political scene, the Boston Red Sox, and UMaine Athletics. He was widowed by his beloved wifeof 54 years Edna (Reich) Barbee Bemis, who had three children that he welcomed into his life as his own.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Barbee-Swan and husband, Mark, of Bangor, and Jane Small and husband, William, of Ellsworth; two sons, Dennis Bemis and wife, Kim, of Milford, and Vincent Bemis and wife, Val, of Rockport; grandchildren, Johnathan Bemis and wife, Kristin, of Greenbush, Sarah Mudge and her husband Josh of Goffstown, NH, Vanessa Bemis of Rockport and Violet Bemis of Rockport; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Zachary, and Jacob; sisters Barbara Leach and her husband Everett of Rochester, NH, Gloria Landry of Acton, Anne Gagne and her husband Donald of Sanford, brothers Patrick Bemis and his wife Irene of Sanford, Francis Bemis, Kenneth Bemis, and Bob Bemis, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Edna in 2012, and a brother Mike Bemis.
