- Clifford Hugh Grant, age 86, passed away on April 10, 2017, from Leukemia. He graduated from Nash School in Addison, ME, in 1947, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served active duty in Korea as a Radio Communications Chief until January 1952. He participated in the battles at Inchon Landing & Chosin. That year he met his future wife of 56 years, Betty Lou Boyle, who passed in 2009. Cliff was a jack of all trades, learning masonry and paving work when they briefly lived in CT. He worked on the Dow Air Field. He retired from AT&T after 32 years. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed the outdoors especially with his long time partner in crime and hunting buddy, Earl Merritt - who passed in 1983. Cliff was a member of the VFW #11553 in Harrington,and the American Legion Post #8 in Cherryfield; the American Trapper's Association, IBTW, International Brotherhood of Telephone Workers and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He helped with the Columbia Planning Board and Volunteer Fire Departments. He was the local Santa for many generations of kids in the area. He assisted Boy Scouts with their Eagle projects and Girl Scouts in eating their cookies. Longtime volunteer members of the Petite Manan Ambulance Corps, He and Betty donated the land that the Pleasant River Ambulance Service is on today. He is survived by his four children, David Earl Grant and his wife, Tina Haluska; Freida Jean Carpenter and her partner, Dana White; Sonya Marie Grant; Jean Marie Stevens and her husband, Terry. 9 Grandchildren and 6.5 Great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh Hartford Grant and Freida Violette White; and his only brother, Leslie Irving Grant. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Toys for Tots or the National Rifle Association. Internment is currently being planned for June 24th with a full Military Service.
