ISLAND FALLS - Cleo Prince Sewall, 92, passed away Oct. 23, 2014 at Mountain Heights in Patten. She was born February 8, 1921 in Oakfield, the daughter of Owen L. and Nina Francis (Duton) Prince. She was wife of the late William Sewall of Island Falls.
After her sons were grown, Cleo went back to school and earned her nursing degree. She worked many years at Madigan Hospital in Houlton, Milliken Memorial Hospital in Island Falls and Patten Nursing Home. After retirement, Cleo traveled extensively to China, Turkey, North Africa, England, Hawaii and Japan. She was always fascinated by the Native American Indians of south western United States and took every opportunity to visit their dwellings and study their culture. Cleo was an avid reader and collector of books, many of which she later donated to the Katahdin Public Library or passed onto friends. She will be fondly remembered for her hospitality and the great family dinners that always included friends of all ages.
She is survived by two sons, William W. Sewall and wife, Joyce of Washburn and David O. Sewall and wife, Jill of Dyer Brook; 5 grandchildren, Lynn Bokovski of Somersworth, NH, William Sewall and wife, Theresa of Milford, David Sewall and fiancée, Andrea Barr of East Millinocket, Levi Sewall and wife, Christine from Herman, Hydi Prentice and husband, Rob from Rochester NM; 8 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Sherry Shaw of Oakfield; 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Prince of Houlton and Maryann Prince of Castleon, NY. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
At Cleo's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Houlton Humane Society, PO Box 548, Houlton ME 04730. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
