Clayton's Story

BANGOR - Clayton A. "Bud" Hand, 82 of Bangor, ME, passed peacefully in his 236 Mt. Hope Ave residence after a short illness on Wednesday, 21 January 2015. His wife Eileen was by his side. Bud was born on February 8th, 1932 in Carmel, ME, the 2nd of 5 children born of Reid "Deacon"and Phyllis Major Hand. Bud graduated from Carmel High School in 1950 and joined the US Navy. In 1953 he graduated from the New London, Connecticut submarine school and was posted to Hawaii where he crewed on the Bugara as a sonar technician during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and began his civilian career as a lineman for the New England Telephone Company. After nearly 25 years with "Ma Bell", he began contract work with a series of telecommunication companies, including ITT. In 1983 he earned a BSc. in telecommunications from Pacific Western University and began traveling worldwide as an engineering contractor. He loved Africa and often regaled his family and friends with native stories. Bud worked hard and played hard his entire life. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was as much a mentor as he was father and grandfather.

Bud is predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie, sibling Alton, and daughter Dolores. He is survived by his newlywed wife Eileen, children Morgan and spouse Gail Hand and their son Matthew and his wife Amy of Crystal River, and Ocala, FL respectively; daughter Tracey and spouse Nicholas Borns and their son Nathaniel of Aberdeen, MD; and daughter Elana and spouse Neil Santerre of Fremont, NH. He is also survived by his brothers, Ralph, Robert, and Richard Hand.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 29th at Bragdon-Kelley funeral home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, Me 04605.
