Claude's Story

SAN DIEGO - Claude Joseph Genest passed away on May 14, 2014 in San Diego, CA after a brief illness. Claude was born in Lewiston, ME on March 19, 1945 to parents, Paul & Georgette Genest. He grew up fascinated by airplanes, a passion he shared with his father, and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. His beautiful home state of Maine instilled in him a lifelong love for the outdoors. Claude attended Parks College, St. Louis, Missouri, obtaining a BS, Aviation Administration. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam then a 30 year career as an FAA air traffic controller. Retirement gave Claude time to pursue interests in photography, travel, sailing & air shows. He enjoyed volunteering at San Diego HS mentoring students & serving on the Finance Board. Claude had a fun-loving spirit enjoying a good tease. His hearty laugh and humor delighted those around him. He loved life & people, especially proud of his children.

Survived by wife Emily, children: Paul, San Diego, CA., Aisha Gibson (Daniel),West Point, UT & Charmaine Shealy (Jonathan) , Summerville, SC; granddaughters Audrey & Myla Gibson: sister Jocelyn Pinard, Bloomfield Hills, MI & brother Emil Genest (Rebecca),Brewer, ME. A celebration of Claude's life will be held March 2015 at Miramar National Cemetery.
