Claire's Story

VAN BUREN - Claire (Boudreau) Charette, 87, died peacefully at Cary Medical Center, April 15, 2014, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Saint Leonard, New Brunswick, July 16, 1926, to the late Valerie and Marie Anne (Roy) Boudreau.

She was educated in the St. Leonard schools. She married Roland G. Charette, April 23, 1946; together they started their family and raised five children in Van Buren. Claire continued her education and proudly graduated from the Van Buren Adult Education Program in 1973 as valedictorian and class speaker. She strongly believed in the mission and purpose of adult education and successfully got many to return to school while working as a recruiter. With this job she had the opportunity to attend many statewide seminars. She had fond memories of her time at the University of Portland Gorham where she participated in many courses and trainings. She went on to work for M.S.A.D. # 24 in Van Buren as an Educational Technician, then an Art teacher. She worked at Champlain, Kindle and Gateway Elementary Schools. She loved all children and was an exceptional, talented, and caring educator, who touched the lives of many. Claire inspired many with her great appreciation of God's magnificent work in nature's boundless beauty. She enjoyed the simple things in life; including the beauty of Long Lake, the fall foliage, the sun setting on a summer evening, the full moon's reflection on the water, a beautiful field of daisies or a field blanketed in fresh snow. She was a talented artist and could effortlessly capture the beauty she witnessed on canvas, creating many beautiful paintings for her family and friends. She had an unwavering love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a kind, loving and compassionate soul. She was a communicant of St. Peter Chanel Parish, was a fervent believer and had a strong and deep faith in our Lord. Claire was an active member in her community. She was involved in the St. Bruno's Mercy Meal Committee, Friends of the Library, Ladies Legion Auxiliary Post 49, Right to Read Program, RSVP Senior's Volunteer Program, Read Across America, a former Girl Scout Leader and Charter Member of the Columbiette's.

The family would like to thank the staff at Borderview and Cary Medical Center for the amazing and compassionate care that Claire received in her final days.
