Cheryl's Story

PORTLAND - Cheryl R.( Leavitt) Worcester died April 29th at Maine Medical Center with her loving sisters at her side after a brief illness. She was born in Lewiston, Maine and was the eldest daughter of the late Janice (Miller) and Arnold Leavitt. Cheryl graduated from Edward Little High School, obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a minor in psychology at the University of Southern Maine, and continued on to attain a Master's Degree in Education with a specialty in remedial mathematics and reading. Highly creative, she was featured in the newspaper for her strategies for teaching remedial subjects at the Durham Elementary School.

Her quiet, gentle manner coupled with her love of children was evident in the way she operated a daycare: every child was like her own and treated very special. Cheryl was very passionate about animals and generally cared for multiple pets. She took great pride in her grandchildren and was very involved in their lives and activities. Cheryl is survived by her husband Wilbur (Skip) Worcester, her daughter Meisha Rice, three grandchildren Juliana, Alanna, and Garrett, and two sisters Barda Leavitt and Wendy Libby and her husband, Bob, along with nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. She maintained a close 63 year friendship with her best friend, Anna.

Cheryl will truly be missed by those who knew her.
