Newington - Charlotte W. Butterworth, 98, of Newington, NH, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2017 at home with her family.
Born in Manchester, NH, on January 18, 1919, she was the daughter of Guy H. and Ella Chapman Williams.
She attended Hallsville Elementary School and Central High School, both in Manchester; Boston University and University of New Hampshire. Following her college days, she worked as a secretary for the New Hampshire Fire Insurance Company in Manchester and later, was employed by several firms in the Portsmouth area, where she spent most of her life. She had been a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and St. Martha's Guild. She was active in local politics for the Republican Party, a member of The League of Women Voters and the Portsmouth Garden Club. In later years, while a resident of Cape Neddick, ME, she was a member of The Ogunquit Women's Club and a past president of several of these organizations, also a lifetime member.
She was an enthusiastic gardener, an excellent cook, a willing volunteer in her community and was devoted to her family, taking great interest in their activities and pride in their accomplishments. She had many friends and was loved and respected by all who knew her.
Surviving family includes her twin brother, Guy Williams and his wife, Blossom, of Punta Gorda, FL, son, James Butterworth of Newington, son, Frank Butterworth and his wife, Debra of Cape Elizabeth, ME, and children, Andrew and his wife, Linda of Wakefield, MA, Jeffrey of Somerville, MA, Timothy and Jonathan, both of Los Angeles, CA, daughter Jane and her husband, Granville Jennings of Holden and Brooklin, ME and children, Michael and his wife, Judy of Holden ME, Ted and his wife Pamela of Scarborough, ME, Jason and his wife, Kristen of Burbank, CA, nieces and nephews Kay O'Leary and Brian Dasher of Port Charlotte, FL, Herbert and his wife Carolyn Williams of Sheridan, WY, Pamela Durst, David Barr, both of Mobile, AL. She had 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her very dearly.
She was predeceased by her sister, Louise Williams and a nephew, Guy Williams.
Charlotte's family wishes to thank Beacon Hospice and Interim Health Services for their kind and loving care during the final time of her life.
A private family service will be held at the convenience of the family.
