MAPLETON - Charles Mullen Putnam, 88, passed away at his residence Thursday morning, September 24, 2015. He was born October 8, 1926 in Presque Isle, the son of Charles R. and Gladys (Mullen) Putnam.
He served his country in the Army as a Tech Sargent in World War II in the Pacific. He married Mildred Tardie in June of 1947 and was a truck driver for O'Donnells Express, Sanborns and APA and retired in October of 1987. He was a member of the Teamster Local 340 for 47 years, was an honorary member of the Future Farmers of America, Presque Isle Chapter, and was a member of the Mapleton United Baptist Church. He was an avid horseman and loved working with his draft horse teams.
Charles is survived by his wife Mildred (Tardie) Putnam of Mapleton, his sons; Wade Putnam of Waltham, MA, Charles G. Putnam and his wife Marilyn of Chapman, Chad Putnam and his wife Roxanne, Taylor Lee Sr. and his wife Jacqueline and Collen "Goose" Putnam and his wife Karen all of Mapleton and a sister, Pricilla Fitzherbert of Presque Isle. He also leaves behind his 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who he loved and cherished and was a "best friend" to all of them and was always there when they needed him.
In addition to his parents, He is predeceased by his brothers; Joseph, Donald and Russell Putnam and sister Patricia Howlett.
Friends and family may call 1pm, Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Mapleton United Baptist Church, 1633 Main St, Mapleton where a memorial service will be held at 2 pm with Dr. Rev. Kenneth Phelps, officiating. Interment with military honors will be held following the service at Southside Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church.
