- Charles Morton W. Kirby passed away on November 20, 2016. He was born in New York City on October 31, 1919, the son of Charles J. W. and Emma A (Morton) Kirby.
He attended schools in Florida and New York and graduated from Southern Arizona School for Boys and attended the University of Arizona. He was in Florida in 1939 recovering from injuries suffered in an automobile accident when he met Jean M. Hardin, the love of his life. They were married November 11, 1940. During World War II Charles served in the US Navy as a civilian inspector of Naval Material. At the end of the war, he went to work for Underwriters Laboratories Inc. until he retired in 1982 as supervising inspector in charge of their New York City inspection center. In the 50's and 60's Charles and Jean were active in Sports Car events with Charles for a while being the president of the Westchester, NY sports car club.
Charles is survived by his son Charles Lee Kirby and wife Evelyn of CO, their daughter; Dorothy Jean Seeley and husband Robert of New Mexico and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Jean who passed away on October 1, 2003.
Charles and Jean will rest together in the historic Bethel Cemetery in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in Charles's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial visitation from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday December 10, 2016, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm Street, Bucksport. ()
