GLENBURN AND ELLSWORTH - Charles Edward Johnson, 82, died April 11, 2015 at an Ellsworth Healthcare Center. He was born June 4, 1932 in Bangor, son of Lewis and Phyllis (Southard) Johnson.
Charlie graduated from Hermon High School, class of 1953 and from the New England Institute of Anatomy and Sanitary Science, Boston, MA in 1959. He was a Licensed Funeral Director in Maine and had been employed by various funeral homes in the area. Charlie served in the U.S. Army in the Caribbean's and was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve in Bangor for 6 years. He was a member of the Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church, the Mechanics Lodge #66 AF & AM, Orono, St. John's Commandery #3, Bangor, Penobscot Chapter #75 Royal Arch Masons of Hampden, Anah Shriners, Bangor and the American Legion Post 84 of Orono. In more recent years he had been employed at the Bangor Mental Health Institute, retiring in 1988 with 25 years of service.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Alma Johnson of Glenburn and Ellsworth are his four children, Laura Johnson of Old Town, Deborah Hayes and her husband, Morey of Glenburn, Brenda DeRoche and her husband, Joe of Old Town and Randall Johnson and his wife, Jennifer of Hancock; five grandchildren, Jonathan Thomas and his wife, Adele of Connecticut, Brandon Thomas and Melissa of Kenduskeag, Lydia Dhein and her husband, Clark of Pennsylvania, Dustin Jones of Old Town and Grady Hayes of Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Kamrin, Kadin, Alexis and Alexander; the mother of his children and special friend, Charlotte Hanscom of Bangor; one stepdaughter, Vickilynn Landman of Trenton.
A memorial and Masonic service will be conducted 11am Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with the Rev. Jack Dowling and the Officers and members of Mechanics Lodge presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, immediately following the service Wednesday. Interment will be later in the spring in the Highland Cemetery, Carmel.
