- Carroll W. Leighton, 82, passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2016, at EMMC. Carroll was the youngest of 15 children born to Marian and Harry Leighton of Cherryfield.
After graduating from Cherryfield Academy at the age of 17, he joined the US Navy as a Dispersing Clerk, and was a Rank of E-6 when he retired and moved his wife and three children to Bangor in 1971. While working he continued his education and in 1972 he graduated from Beal College with an Associate's Degree in Business and also attended Husson College in 1975 majoring in Business Administration.
In 1976 Carroll and his wife of 61 years built their first and forever home in Glenburn, where many years were spent making memories with the family. After finally retiring for good, he and Betty spent the winters in Myrtle Beach, enjoying the sun and growing old together. He was a very loving and devoted husband and at the time of his death was the primary caregiver for Betty.
He is predeceased by his youngest son, Michael D. Leighton who passed away of cancer at an early age of 53. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Rebecca and her husband, Raymond of Glenburn; his son Tom of Florida; four grandchildren, Jennifer and her fiance Stan of Glenburn, Tiffany and her husband Brian of Georgia and Kymberlee of Portland and Ray and his wife Leanne of Massachusetts; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Carroll is greatly missed by all those who loved him.
Services will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, ME. He will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Glenburn with full Military Honors.
