FORT FAIRFIELD - Carolyn C. Giberson, 75, wife of John H. Giberson, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2014 at a Bangor healthcare facility, following an extended period of declining health. She was born September 28, 1938 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of John S. "Jack" and Mary P. (Wallace) Burns.
Carolyn was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1956 and was married to John H. Giberson on December 24, 1956. She had been employed for a number of years as a bookkeeper at the former Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital and later the Fort Fairfield School Department, where she worked as a secretary to the superintendent for several years. She and her husband also co-owned Giberson's Market at Puddledock for several years. Carolyn enjoyed bowling, playing cards, crafts; including cross stitching and quilting, as well as spending time at the family camp at Squaw Pan Lake. She had also been active in numerous capacities at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield where she had been a lifelong member and was also a member of VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Fairfield.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Giberson was predeceased by one sister, Dawn E. Schultz; and by one sister-in-law, Mary G. Burns. She is survived by her husband fifty-seven years, John H. Giberson of Fort Fairfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark B. and Janet Giberson of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy L. and Chris Samaroo of Eddington; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry R. and Pamela Burns of Littleton, CO, John W.R. and Tish Burns of Milford, CT, Robert A. Burns of Fort Fairfield, Preston F. Burns of Shalimar, FL; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta and Clifford Boaz of Fort Fairfield, Margaret R. Gaffga of Cutchogue, NY, Catherine G. and Thomas Altmann of Aransas Pass, TX, and Barbara G. Tyler of Shalimar, FL; five grandchildren, William Bruton and his wife, Kendra of Holden, Amanda Bruton of Eddington, Nicole, Kayla and Christopher Giberson, all of Fort Fairfield; three great-grandchildren, Micaiah, Eliezra, and Drea. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as special friends including Eleanor Cyr of St. Agatha.
Friends may call today Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Kinsey officiating. Private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
