HARRINGTON - Caroline passed away on July 23, 2015 while residing in Orchard Park Nursing Home, Farmington. She was born December 18, 1921, in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, the daughter of Charles and Susie Bodge Austin.
Carrie moved to Harrington to live with Ted and Dorothy Colson in 1931, with three of her sisters. She attended Harrington High School, graduating in 1939. She was one of ten siblings, being the last survivor of those ten.
She married Derwood Strout of Harrington in September 1940. They were married 48 years, when he passed away in 1988. They enjoyed snow-mobiling, camping, lobstering and spending time with their friends. They had been members of the Narraguagus Snowmobile Club. Carrie was employed many years by Jasper Wyman Co in Milbridge and Cherryfield factories. She has been a member of Columbia Methodist church, often helping with baked bean suppers and so forth when she was able.
Carrie is survived by two children: son Carl and wife Elaine Strout of Monson, Mass., granddaughter Tara Strout Parker and husband David, great granddaughter Noella Parker and great-grandson Vincent Parker, all of Monson, Mass. Daughter Gloria and husband Richard McGraw, of Farmington, ME; granddaughter Melanie Norton Mulrooney and husband John Mulrooney, great grandchildren Connor and Aidan Mulrooney who have all just relocated to Germany (Army); grandson Troy and wife Betsy Norton of Farmington, ME, great grandchildren Carter, Cameron and Bryce Norton.
She is also survived by step grandchildren, Shawn and wife Charlene McGraw, Todd and wife Barbara McGraw, Robyn McGraw Brooks and significant other Steven Carson - step great grandchildren, Sierra and Shane, Brannen and Heather and great great grandbaby Riley, Chelsea and John, Taylor, Chandler and Miles. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Doreen Strout.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Faith United Methodist Church, POB 186 Columbia, ME 04623.
There will be a graveside service at Rock Maple Cemetery in Harrington at 2 pm on Fri., July 31.
The family will host refreshments after the service, at Narraguagus Estates dining hall at 3 o'clock following the service.
