Carl's Story

JONESBORO AND HANCOCK - Carl P. Gay, 46, died Nov. 12, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Machias, Feb. 27, 1968, the son of Muriel Gay and Carl Edholm.

He entered the Navy in 1986 and retired in 2000. Carl and his wife M.J. Moved back to Maine from Conn., in 2011. They bought a home in Hancock. He fought a valiant battle with cancer. At first in Conn., where he had three surgeries, and then in Boston for treatments. He ways a member of the Lions Club in Conn., Rose City chorus in Conn., Mainely Music in Bangor, Harwood Masonic Lodge in Machias, V.F.W. in Franklin, and the Jonesboro Union Church. He was a Dallas Cowboys football fan, and enjoyed watching WWE wrestling, NASCAR, and online gaming. He also loved his cat, Pudge, and his dog, Bubba.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jo Gay of Hancock: his mother, Muriel Gay of Jonesboro; his father, Carl Edholm of Oneonta, N.Y.; a daughter, Sarah Gay and a son, Brian Gay, both of Conn.; a sister, Jessie Gay of Jonesboro; a niece, Lauren Welch of Jonesboro; a nephew, Curtis Gerrish of Chesterville, ME; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 at McClure Family Funeral Home (corner of Charles and Drisko Streets) Machias. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jonesboro Union Church. Burial will immediately follow in the Getchell Cemetery, Marshfield.
