BRENT's Story

HOLDEN - Brent E. West, Sr., 71, died peacefully on November 28th, 2015 following a brief illness. As a devout Christian, he worshiped his Lord for nearly 50 years as a member of the Church of Christ in Bangor.

Brent was born in Milo, ME on February 6, 1944, the eldest son of Paul and Thelma (Pratt) West. While growing up he traveled the country with his parents and brothers as his father, Paul, worked pipeline construction, living in nearly every state in the contiguous U.S. They eventually returned to Maine, where he attended Winterport High School and then Milo High School where he graduated. He went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine, Orono and worked for the J.W. Sewall Company in Old Town as a licensed professional engineer for nearly 30 years. Although his accomplishments as an engineer were many, he was most proud of the waste water treatment facilities he designed for several communities throughout eastern and northern Maine. Additionally, as a determined and skillful "jack of all trades", he could problem solve, fix, repair or build anything he set his mind to. Brent enjoyed rounding out his career employing his many talents at the Allen Farm Fence Company in Hermon working for his dear friend, and brother in Christ, Ralph Allen.

Brent made the most of his time here on Earth that God granted him. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family deeply. He poured much love, blood, sweat and tears into the house he provided for his wife where they raised their children and called home. He devoted much of his life to studying Bible scripture and teaching others God's word. Recreational activities included sailing and exploring the coast of Maine and playing golf with his wife and close friends as a member of Traditions Golf Course in Holden. Brent faithfully practiced yoga, appreciating its many benefits, and has been an inspiration in his granddaughter's love for yoga. Brent loved walking in the woods and being with God's creation that is so abundant in this beautiful State of Maine. Sometimes nature would come to him when he would contently watch and admire deer that made their way into his backyard at home, allowing all but one to make it safely back into the woods. More recently, he enjoyed spending winters with his wife in Fort Myers, Florida where he could be found on the golf course most days. He got great satisfaction from helping his sons figure out and work on various projects at their homes. Additionally, he was a devoted caregiver to his mother-in-law, in the last years of her life, whom he loved dearly. His humble nature, words of wisdom, helpful deeds, hearty laugh, and love and appreciation towards his loved ones and friends will be greatly missed and always cherished.

Brent is survived by his wife of 48 years, Geraldine (Simpson) West, two sons and their wives, Brent Jr. and Barbara West of Stockton Springs, and Joel and Christie West of Clifton. Three beautiful granddaughters he loved dearly and was very proud of; Bailey, Bethany and Jacquelyn, two brothers and their wives George and Kathy West and Gary and Teresa West, all of Milo. Brother in-law John Simpson and his wife Betsy of Hampden, his aunt Phyllis Hamilton of Texas and many special nieces, nephews and friends. Brent was predeceased by his parents Paul and Thelma, mother and father-in-law Millard and Marguerite Simpson, grandparents Clarence and Edith West, sister and brother in law Marie and Clayton Quint as well as several Aunts, Uncles and special friends.

A memorial service celebrating Brent's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 at the Church of Christ building located at 516 Union Street in Bangor. A private burial will be held at the Milo Cemetery on a separate occasion.
