Blanche E. Ryan

- Blanche E. Ryan, 93, wife of the late James G. Ryan, died February 6, 2017, in Houlton. She was born November 20, 1923, in Island Falls, the daughter of the late Thomas and Verna F. (Desmond) Hoar.
Blanche was a graduate from Island Falls High School as valedictorian Class of 1941. She received a diploma in stenography from the Bangor Maine School of Commerce (which is now Husson) in 1942. She worked for one year as a clerk stenographer for the Warman Power Commission in Washington DC and for 44 years as a cashier/bookkeeper in the Island Falls office of Maine Public Service Co., retiring on January 1, 1988. She was a member of the local bridge club, a past Secretary of the St. Agnes Ladies Club and the Big Valley Sno Club. She enjoyed playing skat with her friends and croquet with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed writing poetry for special occasions and was an avid sports fan - active in golfing, bowling and snowmobiling. In her later years she received a great deal of pleasure from watching the Celtics, Spurs, Red Sox, Bruins, University of Maine and PGA games on TV.
She is survived by her only son, Thomas C. Ryan of Island Falls; her grandchildren, James C. Ryan and fiancée, Mindy Henderson of Machias, Joshua T. Jones and his wife, Nicole of Bangor, Crystal Ridley and her husband, Jeff of Eddington, Carrie Jones of Bangor; 6 great grandchildren; her friend and mother of her grandchildren, Paula Jones of Brewer; brother-in-law, Richard Ryan and his wife, Teresa; sister-in-law, Merylne Ryan her companion, Rudolph "Pit" Raymond of Island Falls; many cousins, nieces and nephews; special friends, Charlene Webb, Dale Webb, Brenda Webb Willette and Marion Hoar all of Island Falls, Jarice Gould of Dyer Brook and Arline Hosford of Crystal. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James; by her brother Linwood; her grandparents; mother and father-in-laws, Esther and Charles Ryan; sister-in-laws, Alice Lane, Florence Ryan, Louella Ryan and Patricia Boutilier; brothers-in-law, Edward Ryan, Michael Ryan, Clement Ryan, Willis Lane and Clyde Boutilier.
