OTIS - Betty J. O'Keefe, 94, died peacefully July 31, 2014 at her Beech Hill Pond residence. She was born August 17, 1919 in Kenton, Ohio a daughter of Howard and Ilo (Henry) Carmean.
Betty was educated in Kenton schools graduating from Kenton High School in 1937. She graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, Class of 1941 where she was member of AOPi National Sorority. She was employed at General Motors, Dayton, Ohio, from 1941-1945. In 1945, she married Robert O'Keefe, from Old Town, Maine and they resided in Old Town from 1945 to 1977. While in Old Town, she was active in the PTA, Old Town United Methodist Church, Omega Club, and volunteered for many community projects. In 1977, following her husband's retirement they moved to Beech Hill Pond, Otis.
She is survived by her four children, Robert E. O'Keefe Jr. and his wife, Fran, Patricia L. Hatch, Roderick H. O'Keefe and wife, Cynthia, and Nancy L. Morrison and her husband, Royce; her eight grandchildren, Kellie Ketchen and husband, Brian, Edward Hatch and his wife, Valerie, Robert Hatch and his wife, Amber, Shana Curtis and her husband, Josh, Sarah J. Johnson and husband, Marc, Tyson R. O'Keefe, Amy Fletcher and husband, Brent, and Eric Morrison and wife, Jen Healy; 14 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Nicholas, Isabelle, Evelyn, Madisson, Bailey, Ellie, Gabriel, Peter, Shayne Tiannah, Blake, Keira, and Gavin; a brother, Howard Carmean; and a special canine companion, Laci; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Bob in 2009; two brothers and one sister.
The family wishes to thank Beacon Hospice, Loving Touch especially Nikki and Melinda, and a special friend and caregiver Roberta, and wonderful neighbors, Allen and Cathie Thibodeau.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service which will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
