Betty's Story

ETNA - Betty (Masterman) Ellison, 85, died peacefully Thursday Dec. 3, 2015 at her Etna home after a long illness.

She was born in York England May 31, 193 the only daughter of John and Charlette (Moore) Masterman.

Betty was raised in England and in 1954 she met her future husband (Ernest D. Ellison) at a dance, it was love at first sight. They were married on Oct. 16, 1954 in the first double ring ceremony in England. They came to America shortly after their marriage. Ernest was in the U.S.A.F and was stationed at Lake Charles, Louisiana. Their son John was born in Sept. of 1956.

Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nokomis Chapter, and was a member of the Scarlett Foxes of the Red Hat group.

Betty was a 40 year cancer survivor.

She is survived by her son and only child, John Ellison and his wife Belle of Etna, two granddaughters, Alison Harris of Etna, Tiffany Ellison of Newport, four great grandsons; Kyle, Austin, Jeremy, and Gene.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ernest D. Ellison, and her brother Jack Masterman.

Betty was a member of the Carmel Union Congregational Church and attended the High Street Congregational Church in Newport.

Friends may call Wednesday Dec. 9, 2015 from 6 to 7 PM at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center 34 High St Newport with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 6:30pm at the Funeral Home. Memorial services will be conducted Thursday Dec. 10, 2015 at 1PM at the High Street Congregational Church with Rev. Ernest Campbell pastor officiating. burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Etna. Friends who wish may make memorial donations in her memory to Caring Connections c/o Bangor YMCA 17 2nd Street, Bangor, Maine 04401.
