Bertrand's Story

VAN BUREN - Bertrand "Bert" Levasseur, 88, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at a Caribou hospital following a brief illness. He was born August 21, 1926, in Van Buren, a son of the late Benjamin and Agnes (Cyr) Levasseur.

He owned and operated former Bert's Amoco and Polaris, Van Buren, with his wife for many years, and was a deliveryman with former J.J. Paradis Fuel Oil and several of the local potato farms. He was a former Van Buren Town Council Chairman and a long-time volunteer firefighter. Bert was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Assembly, Council #349, Van Buren, and a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church. During his rare free time, he enjoyed snowmobiling and bowling, however, always valued a good, hard day of work.

He is survived by three sons, Jim Levasseur and his wife, Marge, of Fort Kent, Mike Levasseur and his wife, Charline, of Van Buren and John Levasseur and his fiancee, Monica Hall, of Caribou; five grandchildren, Michelle, Robin, Billie-Jo, Lisa and Katy; six great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren on the way, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bert was predeceased his wife of 49 years, Rachel (Daigle) Levasseur, in 1996; an infant son, Philip Levasseur; and five siblings, Tony Levasseur, Bob Levasseur, Lucille Guerrette, Cecile Lavoie and Raymond Levasseur.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 9-10:30 a.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
