BERTHA's Story

BANGOR, ME AND ORLANDO, FL - Bertha "Betty" "Bertie" Luella Peavey Kirk, 87, 1928-2015 daughter of Stella Perkins Peavey and George Ivory Peavey died peacefully at her home in Orlando on August 18, 2015.

Her husband, George E. Kirk, loving husband of 62 years, predeceased her in 2011. She is survived by one son George E. Kirk, Jr. of Orlando, FL. Her husband and her son were her world and she was a most devoted wife, mother and aunt.

Bertha (Betty, Bertie) was most creative. She was an active E-Bay seller known as sjell and to the crafting world as The Laughing Gull. Her hobbies included Fenton milk glass and other glassware. She made many friends on the glass Chat rooms. In her earlier years, she worked at Bangor Daily News for classified, formatting all national advertising, including local shops, stores and dealerships, (layouts),etc. She also managed Priest Drug Co in Bangor, ME part time. Upon her husband's promotion as Assistant Head of Right of Way in Augusta, she and George relocated to Augusta. Upon his retirement in 1977,George, Betty and son George, Jr. moved to Orlando, FL. Throughout her life, she touched many with her graciousness, hospitality, caring and love. Her warm smile and generous spirit will forever live on.

She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters and their spouses: two brothers George Peavey of Boulder City, NV; Gilman Peavey of Hermon, ME; two sisters Orrie "Judy" "Red" Peavey LeClerc of Tiburon, CA; and Harriet "Blondie" Peavey Beaulieu of Orlando, FL. She will lovingly be remembered by family and by many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be help Saturday,September 26 at 10:00, Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, Kebo Road, Bar Harbor, ME
