HAMLIN - Bernard R. "Banane" Cyr, 82, of Altoona, Fla. passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014. He was born on May 29, 1932 in Hamlin, a son of the late Remi and Alexina Cyr.
Bernard owned and operated the former A. C. Madore Insurance Co., Van Buren & Madawaska, selling insurance and real estate. He previously worked as an officer with the Van Buren Police Department. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1635, Van Buren, a founder of the Gateway Credit Union and a former member of Van Buren Rotary Club. He and his wife relocated to The Villages, FL, and later to Altoona, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Aline (Beaulieu) Cyr, of Altoona, FL; three sons, the Rev. Dr. Mark Cyr and his wife Margie of Bethany Beach, DE, Dr. Charles Cyr and his wife Abbie Penfield of Underhill, VT, and Andrew Cyr and his wife Bernice of Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Debra A. Cyr of Framingham, MA, Paula Cumber and her husband Guy of Mountain Home, ID, and Monica Agnew and her husband Tim of Encinitas, CA; brother Albert Cyr and his wife Anne of Presque Isle; sister Angela Owens and her husband Gil of Altoona, FL; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Bernard is predeceased by his brother, John Cyr, and his sister Marcella Jones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, June 8, 2015 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. There will be no calling hours. Burial in the parish cemetery will follow.
