Bella's Story

FORT KENT - Bella Aurore Jandreau Plourde, a resident of Forest Hill, died at the age of 92, on July 1, 2015. Bella was born on April 27, 1923, in St. Francis, Maine, the daughter of Victor and Isabelle (Gagnon) Jandreau.

Being the eldest of a family of 14 children and living through the Great Depression, Bella had to quit school her sophomore year of high school and began to work to help the family. In 1953 Bella married the love of her life, Gerard Plourde, and moved to Fort Kent, Maine, and raised a family of four. She then became a stay-at-home mom and taught her children many values. Bella was an excellent cook, gardener, seamstress and had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, the Columbiettes and the Fort Kent Hospital Guild.

Bella was predeceased by her husband, Gerard; her son-in-law, Gerard St. Jean; her sister, Verna Jandreau; and brother, Marvin Jandreau. She is survived by her four children, Ina St. Jean, Dean Plourde (Karen), Vickie Boucher (Bert) and Dale Plourde (Lynn), all of Fort Kent. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Merya Schleife and Jessica St. Jean, Bradley, Barton, Alexander and Derick Plourde, Casey, Jared and Taylor Boucher, Chelsey, Cody, Austin Plourde and Jarod McBreairty; and her great-grandchildren, Annabel, Russell, Catherine and Nathin Schleife, Addison, Abram and Ayden Plourde and Lucas McBreairty; and 11 siblings, Alphondore Jandreau, Winnefred Jandreau, Vina Ouellette, Irene Martin, Hansley Jandreau (Linda), Marybelle Jandreau (Medric), Nadine Taggett (Roy), Margie Taggett (Clyde), Angy Taggett (Carol), Nelson Jandreau (Gene) and Calvin Jandreau (Gin). She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Joel Plourde (Claudette); and sisters-in-law, Venette King, Burnette Bowker (David) and Luciene Plourde.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Friends may call Thursday, July 2, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, July 3, from 9-10:30 a.m. at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal services will follow in the Parish Cemetery. In Bella's memory, those who wish may donate to the Memorial Fund, Northern Maine Medical Center Guild, care of Claire Moss, 194 East Main St., Fort Kent, ME 04743 or to a charity of one's choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
