Beatrice's Story

CHARLESTON - Our mother, Beatrice M. Roy, 78, passed away on September 27, 2015 of pancreatic cancer. She greatly missed but is now with her sister, Vivianne C. Plante, who was taken by the same disease in 2001.

Mum was born March 20, 1937 in Rumford, Maine to Rene and Lucille (Gauthier) Lefebvre. A 1955 graduate of Mexico High School, she did assembly work before marrying our dad, Rene R. Roy, in 1957. We are their children: Michael R. Roy and long-time companion Cheryl Tatro of Bradford; Marie L. (Roy) Duplessis and husband Jim of Orrington; Mark L. Roy and wife MaryAnn of Corinth; Mona D. (Roy) St. Peter and husband Wayne of Kenduskeag; and Matthew S. Roy and long-time companion Jenna Young of Charleston.

Mum was a music lover and through the years she always had albums spinning on the turntable, a collection of cassette tapes, MTV videos streaming, or the radio playing in the house or the car. And she enjoyed a wide range of music from Elvis Presley, Doug Kershaw, and Neil Diamond to Pink Floyd, AC/DC, and Guns 'N Roses.

But Mum's real compassion was for all animals. She never wanted stray cats or dogs to go hungry and worried terribly about wild animals surviving the harsh Maine winters. She has been a regular donor to several national wildlife rescue organizations as well as local no-kill animal shelters. We share in this compassion, as all of our pets are animal shelter rescues, adopted strays, or have otherwise been given a better home.

Besides the deep sadness we feel in losing our mother, Grammy Roy will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Benjamin Roy and his children Kaitlyn and Logan; Zackery and Casey Bridgham; Kyle and Kody Roy; Renee Martin and her daughter Lily; and Connor St. Peter. She is survived by her brother Réynald Lefebvre and wife Lois of Leeds, as well as many nieces and nephews. And a special thank you from us to Mum's long-time neighbors and dear friends, Cheryl and Kenny Sullivan.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. Interment will be held privately by the immediate family at the Puddledock Road Cemetery in Charleston. Donations in her memory can be made to the Old Town Animal Orphanage at PO Box 565, Orono, ME 04473-0565 or to any no-kill animal shelter.
