Barbara's Story

MILO - Barbara Rand Scribner Walker, 86, wife of the late Frank E. Walker, passed away April 2, 2015, at an Orono nursing home. She was born October 19, 1928, in Old Town, the daughter of Linwood and Ethel (Taylor) Rand. After her mother's passing she was adopted and raised by Hibbert and Bessie (Chambers) Scribner.

Barbara had worked for many years at Milo Community Hospital as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Park Street United Methodist Church, a member and past president of the United Methodist Women, a member and Past Matron OES, a member of HAD No. 4 Auxiliary and she volunteered at the Piscataquis YMCA.

She is survived by three sons, Michael H. Walker and wife, Georgia, of Topsham, David A. Walker and wife, Debra, of Milo, and Rand E. Walker of Milo; two brothers, Retire Rand and Llewelyn Rand; four sisters, Cora Paradis, Peggy Languette, Rita Levasseur, and Sally Johnson. Barbara also leaves five grandchildren, Lance Walker and wife, Heidi; Heather Cox and husband, Tony; Amanda Walker and husband, Troy Crocker; Andrew Walker; and Jodi Walker; and five great-grandchildren, Anna, Olivia, Ava, Dylan, and Madelyn. She will be remembered by many special nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends, including a special friend whom Barbara thought of as a daughter, Beth Ellison. Barbara was predeceased by a sister, Roberta Burr and a brother, Linwood Rand, Jr.

Barbara's family extends special thanks to the staff at Orono Commons for the care and compassion they showed her while she was there.

A graveside service will be conducted at the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, in the spring. Barbara was a lover of children and animals; those who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity to benefit either one. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
