Barbara's Story

HERMON - Barbara Elizabeth (Elder) Jackson, 88, passed away peacefully May 1, 2016 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine. Barbara, wife of the late Albert M. Jackson, and daughter of Elizabeth Elder of Sullivan was born on April 20, 1928 in Skowhegan and raised by a foster family in Harmony and later attended high school in Skowhegan.

Barbara was predeceased by her sisters Janet Turner of Sparks, Nevada, Harriett Albee of Franklin, Maine and a brother Sherwood Elder of Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Barbara was an avid artist and crafter whose works depicted her love of nature and its animals and lure. With her husband and son, they built, founded, and operated Mt. Hermon Ski Area from 1963 to 1974.

Barbara is survived by her son, Bernard Jackson and wife Deborah of Buxton Maine; granddaughter, Nicole Keaney and husband Patrick of Bellingham Massachusetts; great granddaughter, Brandy; as well as several nieces and nephews and loving companion, Ellwood Worster, Sr. of Levant.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 7th, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Hampden Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, Maine. Interment will be in South Side Cemetery in Skowhegan at 2:00PM. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home and Cremation, 13 Portland Road, Buxton, Maine.
