- Barbara E. Giles, 93, died April 7, 2017 at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born in Dover-Foxcroft, December 13, 1923, the daughter of Albert and Vera (Boyington) Shannon.
Barbara grew up in Dover-Foxcroft where she attended local schools. She retired from Dexter Shoe Company in Dexter after working there for 29 years. She loved spending time in her flower gardens, and traveling, to Ireland, and Scotland; bus trips to many parts of the United States, Canada, and Prince Edward Island. Most of all she devoted herself to Johnny and her family. She cherished time spent with grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She set an example of endurance through tough times, selflessness, humility, and laughter.
She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, John J. Giles in 2016; sisters, Ruth Pulkkinen, Eva St. Pierre, Glenice Smart, and a brother, Linwood Shannon.
She is survived by a son, Robert Giles of Garland; a daughter, Carol LiPuma and her husband, Bill of Litchfield, NH; a sister, Vivian Chadwick of Brunswick; 4 grandchildren, Cathy Walter and her husband, Steve, Tricia Daziel and her husband, Rob, Jodi Hanson and her husband, Brad, and Jamie Gallant and her husband, Gary; and great grandchildren, Leah, Alex, Caroline, Madison, Cassidy, Kendall, Brookelin, Marshall, and Mitchell; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street in Dexter, with Pastor Scott Millett officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be later in the spring at the Evergreen Cemetery in Garland.
