Arthur's Story

FOREST CITY - Arthur W. Peabody, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully December 28, 2015, surrounded by his family. Arthur was born May 20, 1933, and was a graduate of Brewer High School.

Arthur proudly served his country during the Korean War as a part of the U.S. Air Force. After returning from Korea he took employment with Maine Energy, where he committed 28 years of service to the company. Following retirement in 1989, Arthur moved to East Grand Lake. Arthur considered himself the luckiest man alive to live in such a peaceful place. He would spend his retirement enjoying his "swimming pool," which made many family memories. He will be remembered for his love a good book, the Boston Bruins, and his cribbage games. One of the greatest joys was walking 3 miles with his many dogs to get the paper every morning. His family will remember him for his infectious smile, kindheartedness and strong work ethic. During his time at East Grand he could be spotted with a dog not far from him whether it be on his long walks, on the 4-wheeler or by his seat at the dinner table. He was a man adored by many and had a way about him that made you feel at home.

Arthur is survived by his son, Arthur "Bill" Peabody Jr. and companion, Laurie Conway, and their dog, Thunder; his daughter, Laurie Melanson and husband, Chris; granddaughter, Amanda Larrabee and husband, Kenny; and great-granddaughter, Amelia Grace. He is also survived by two brothers, Fred Peabody and wife, Margie, and Doug Peabody; as well as his many close friends at East Grand Lake. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr.'s Sussman, Konstantakos, OKere and Pascual for such wonderful care, as well as to his angels at Hospice of Aroostook: Janet, Mim, Lynn and Brandi, for their compassionate care.

At Arthur's request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bangor Humane Society in Arthur's memory.
