Arthur's Story

BANGOR - Arthur Edward Boulter, 88, passed away peacefully at home, on December 26, 2015, surrounded by family. Arthur was born on July 12, 1927, to the late Edward and Evelyn Boulter.

Arthur attended the local Bangor Schools and graduated from Bangor High School in 1945. He enjoyed his studies and his outside activities. Following his graduation, he attended the US Merchant Marine Academy. Arthur served as a Cadet in the Engine Department of the cargo ship, making voyages to foreign countries with supplies. He retired from the Academy to attend the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, where he met the love of his life, Helen Sutton. He graduated in February of 1951 and after marrying his college sweetheart, he was hired by Westinghouse and worked on inside welding sales at Cheektowaga, NY. He later transferred to Boston, where he was in outside sales. Arthur left Westinghouse to work for his family business, J.J. Boulter and Son, serving as sales manager for approximately 34 years. The business was sold to Portland Welding Supply in Bangor and Arthur was hired as the plant manager, until he retired at the age of 62. Arthur was a grateful long term survivor of prostate and breast cancers, and a proud participant in several Race for the Cure walkathons in support of a breast cancer cure.

Arthur and his wife, Helen had four children. During the years of bringing up a family, they spent many years of enjoyment at their camp on Molasses Pond. Arthur and Helen vacationed to Bermuda on several occasions, liking it so much, as well as to Florida. Arthur served on various committees at the First Baptist Church and in different capacities in the Bangor Rotary Club. He was a lifetime member of St. Andrew's Lodge #83 AF&AM of Bangor, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Maine Consistory 32nd degree, and Anah Shriners.
