PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Anna (Campolattano) Simone, affectionately known as 'Nana' to her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, passed away early on March 7, 2016, after 96 years of a full and "wonderful life."
A devoted and loving mother of five, famous for her Sunday gravy with braciole, Anna was a gentle, generous and compassionate soul whose love for others knew no bounds; there was no stranger she would not open her home to, nor guest she would not feed. Anna was born and raised on Federal Hill, Rhode Island, and worked for many years serving the RI Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF). Though she was married for 25 years to the late Valentino R. Simone, MD, Anna was no doubt the matriarch of her household.
Anna was predeceased by her sons, Jay Allen and Dr. Stephen S. Simone; and her daughter, Josanne N. Simone. She is survived by her youngest son, Dr. Kenneth G. Simone; and her eldest daughter, Valerie A. Poe.
Visitation will be held Saturday 8:30-10:15 a.m. in the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence, R.I., follow by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine Church 639 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence, R.I. Burial at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, R.I. Donations in Anna's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. .
