DENNYSVILLE - Ann J. Morrison, 71, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2016, the day the robins returned. Present at her death was her partner, Bonnie Clymer, and her dog, Rody. She was born in Canton, Ohio in 1944.
Ann was one of those rare individuals who recognized her vocation at an early age - nursing. She attended Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in Canton, Ohio and later earned a B.S. in Nursing from Akron University. Ann started her career as a staff nurse and instructor at Aultman Hospital. In 1969, she moved to Bangor, Maine and, for ten years, held several positions at Eastern Maine Medical Center. During that time she earned an M.S. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. She then began a twenty-two year career as a Chief Executive Officer at various Maine hospitals, including Castine Community Hospital, Plummer Memorial Hospital in Dexter, and a 15-year tenure at Sebasticook Community Hospital in Pittsfield. In 1997 she received the Pearl S. Fisher Healthcare Leadership Award from the Maine Hospital Association. Towards the end of her career Ann had a strong desire to return to her roots and went back to nursing. For several years she worked at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. She loved working with the veterans and was a strong patient advocate.
In retirement, Ann loved spending time with Bonnie and the dogs. She also enjoyed tending her flower beds and speeding around the backyard on her lawnmower. Relatives and friends used these words to describe Ann: generous, fair, compassionate, honest, courageous, tenacious, hardworking, loyal, lovable, an anchor in a storm.
Ann is survived by her longtime partner, Bonnie Clymer; and a much-loved family, including her niece, Samantha Hafford, and husband, Ryan; her sisters, Molly McNicholl and husband, George, Jennifer Dannenberg and husband, Michael; her nieces and nephew, Carrie, Roslyn, and James; and her dog, Rody.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, Ann requested that donations be made to the Humane Society of your choice.
