Amelia's Story

BANGOR - Amelia M. Shaboski, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at a Bangor health care center. She was born in Bangor, the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline (Ostafichuk) Shaboski.

Amelia was a graduate of John Bapst Catholic High School. She was employed by Webber Oil Co and then accepted a position as secretary to the Chief of Police of Bangor. She later received an appointment to the accounting department in the US Department of Treasury in Washington, DC where she remained until her retirement. She returned home to Bangor to be with family and friends but missed the activities of Washington, DC. She enrolled at Bangor High School and took a course in sewing. She worked with crafts making afghans for family and friends. She enjoyed a weekly game of Bridge. She was a member of St. John's Council of Catholic Women, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and was a devout catholic and communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish.

She was predeceased by her five brothers, Raymond H., Edward J. James E., Stanley J. and Francis W. Shaboski all of Bangor and by a sister, Mary P. Popko of Maryland. She is survived by her devoted sister, Sophie Shaboski Wood who lovingly was her caregiver for the last three years and by several nieces, great nieces and great nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 12 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held immediately afterward in the church center.
