Amanda's Story

STONINGTON - Amanda L. Ray, loving mother and wife, died at Blue Hill

Hospital on May 24, 2014, after a long-term illness. She was born January

21, 1943 in Portland the daughter of James and Genevieve Shepard. Growing

up in a large family, like all her siblings she developed an incredible work

ethic. She did a variety of jobs, including clam shucking, working in the

Stonington Fish Factory and working for local restaurants. But the best job

of all was caring for her family.

She is survived by four children: Basil J. Ray, Robert L. Ray, Michele E.

Ray and Shannon L. Heroux and husband Benjamin Heroux; two grandchildren,

Eric E. Ray and wife Katie Ray and Casey A. Goodness and husband Erik J.

Goodness; four great grandchildren, Koby John Nevells, Cole Ray, Kanen Ray,

and Kiersten Heroux; Nine brothers and sisters, Amelia, Arlene, Jermone,

Linda, Ronald, Barry, Timothy, Christopher and Sharon. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband Edgar R. Ray

and son John-John E. Ray.

A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Little Deer Isle on

June 14, 2014 at 12:00 noon. All are welcome. There will be a celebration

of life following services at the home of Amelia Aldrich.
