Dade City, FL, and Enfield
- Alvin B. Whitaker, 82, died January 23, 2017, in Dade City, Florida, after a period of failing health. He was born in Hudson, NY, to Kenneth B. and Nettie (Loomis) Whitaker and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hudson. He graduated from Hudson High and attended SUNY at Syracuse.
After serving in the US Navy, he began his career in retail management with the JJ Newberry Co. in 1959. He managed stores in Massachusetts, New York, and Maine. In 1972, he relocated to Lowell, Maine, and operating from the Newberry store in Lincoln, he supervised 14 stores until his retirement. He was a 50 year member of University Lodge No. 230 F & AM of Altamont, NY, and a 30 year member of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor.
He is survived by a daughter, Kay Whitaker, of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Janna Goodwin, of Dade City, FL and Jamie and husband, Paul, of Monticello, IL; also five great-grandchildren. He leaves a sister, Janet Richardson, of Albany, NY and a niece and nephew. He is also survived by his companion of 30 years, Freda Thornton and family, of Enfield. Interment will be in the spring in Enfield.
