GRAND LAKE STREAM AND LEE - Alton "Mickey" Yates (Bump), 86, passed away at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 8, 2015.
Alton was born August 13, 1928, in Grand Lake Stream; he was predeceased by his parents, Manley and Mildred (Mullin) Yates.
Alton was a veteran, having served in the Army during the Korean War as an MP. He lived in Westborough, MA, and drove a car carrier for 30 years and in 1979 retired back to his camp on West Grand Lake with his wife, Delia and family. He always enjoyed the yearly 4th of July family reunion with many cookouts and lots of his grandchildren playing and swimming. He also loved to take family and friends for rides or fishing on the pontoon boat. One of his favorite pastimes was watching the Red Sox and attending games at Fenway Park.
In addition to his parents, Alton was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Delia (Walker) Yates, in 1997; his daughter, Linda Rich; daughter-in-law, Wendy (Mallory) Yates; son in-law, George Bagley; three brothers, Frank, David and Albert Yates; and four sisters, Cora Glynn, Maxine Brown, Stella Dunsmore and Yvonne Peterson. Surviving are his sons, Jay and Debbie of Grafton, Ma, David and Janice of Shrewsbury, Ma, Scott and Angel of Grand Lake Stream, Me., and Alton and Elizabeth of Springfield, Me.; his daughters, Debra Blash of Baileyville, Me., Michele Bagley of Lee, Me., and Toni and Rocky Williams of Grand Lake Stream, Me.; nineteen grandchildren, Edward Blash III, Missy Roussel, Michael Blash, Derick Johnson and Stephanie, David Mullen, Travis Mullen, Jamie Yates, Jennifer Yates, Jessica Hill and Bob, Brad Yates and Nicole, Roy Yates and Amanda, Kyla Yates, Delia Yates, Opal Yates, Tara Williams, Keith Williams and Kyra, Todd Yates and Erin, Cassie Yates and Corey Yates; 26 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, at the Grand Lake Stream Church at 11 a.m, with burial at a later date.
