Althea's Story

ENFIELD - Althea F. Wallace, 84, passed away unexpectedly at a Bangor hospital on July 22, 2015. She was born in Mattawamkeag the daughter of the late Howard and Laura (Tilton) Shedd on August 26,1930 and she was the wife of the late Paul F. Wallace, Sr.

Althea grew up in Mattawamkeag and later moved to Enfield where she lived on Cold Stream Pond for 45 years. She was a hairdresser for over 60 years starting her business in Mattawamkeag and then moving it to Lincoln. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Lakeland, FL. She was a avid square dancer, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, and a member of the Greater Lincoln Community Choir.

Althea is survived by her son Paul F. Wallace Jr. and his wife Sandra of Enfield, a special sister-in-law Eileen Priest of Enfield, brothers Galen Shedd and his wife Ethel of Dixmont, Derwood Shedd and his wife Betty of Millinocket, Alton Shedd and his wife Mary of Lincoln, a sister Janet Moulen and her husband Tom of Rye, NH. a grandson Dylan and a granddaughter Christina both of Enfield, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, she is also predeceased by her a sister Charlotte York, a sister in law Judy Gipson Shedd, and brother in law Bryce Priest.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Clay Funeral Home at 7 Lee Road in Lincoln. An Eastern Star service will be held during visiting hours. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln followed by a committal service at the Mattawamkeag Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. A time of fellowship will follow at the home of Owen and Veda Page at 13 Lee Road, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Greater Lincoln Community Choir and may be left at or sent to the funeral home.
