Alta's Story

Millinocket and Bangor - Alta V. "Virgie" Peters, 62, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Westgate Center in Bangor following a long battle with Picks Disease.

Virgie was born September 17, 1953 to Goodsill S. "Pete" and Alta (Boyington) Peters. She was a graduate of G.W. Stearns High School, class of 1972. Virgie enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and spending time with friends and family at camp on Big Hurd Pond.

She is survived by her mother, Alta Peters of Millinocket; a sister, Roxanne Lent and her husband John, Jr. of Bangor; two nieces, Mary Hill and her husband Brad of Houlton, and Toni Lent and significant other Brandon Barnett of Ellsworth; two great nephews Johnathan and Emery Hill; two aunts, Lorraine Boyington and Eleanor Dunnell; an uncle, William Boyington, and multiple cousins who were more like siblings. Virgie was predeceased by her father in 1996.

The family wishes to thank Beacon Hospice for their support. We also want to express sincere gratitude and thanks to the Westgate staff, especially Acadia Unit, for the excellent care and devotion given to Virgie over the last two years.

Graveside services will be held 1 P.M. Thursday, August 18 at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Virgie may be sent to the Activities Fund at Westgate Center; 750 Union Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket. Messages of condolence may be expressed at
